| I started in 1975 as a member of the Sancians drum and bugle corps from Weymouth, MA. I played in the snare line with all twenty one year old guys, while I was only thirteen. I was so happy that I made the snare line as such a young age but, hanging around with grown men every day and night taught me many things I don't think I was ready to learn. I became known in the drum corps circles as "Mozart", becasue of my age and musical ability (I still haven't written any symphonies yet though.) I later went on to the world famous 27th Lancer drum and bugle corps, who won many national contests, and appeared at the 1980 winter Olympics. I also appeared at the 1994 D.C.I. Nationals with the Lancers reunion corps...
My drum corps experience has always stuck with me. It was a special time in my life as a drummer and a person. The friends you make and the triumphs, (and sometimes losses,) you share togehter are memories that never really leave you. My drum corps experience taught me that discipline and hard work definitely pay off. This has helped me with my music career immensley. For anyone out ther elooking for a way to build your chops as well as make some life long friends, drum corps is a great place to do it. Berklee has included drum corps style drumming in its curriculum. I teach a class called "The Berklee drum line." We learn cadences and drum solo's, and perform at the end of each semester. |
