Week 1 - Learning Ultimate Control
Week 2 - Don't Over Hit
It seems to me that most drummers tend to "over hit" the drums. It's kind of like swinging for the fences ( swinging hard to hit a home run) in baseball. This causes dynamic, time, and fatigue problems. Don't hit so hard , a strong, well placed stroke or strokes will have much more impact.
Week 3 - Don't Grab to hard
When working on rudiments, try to maintain a relaxed and smooth stroke. We often equate articulation with tension by grabbing onto the stick too hard.
The key to ultimate control over the drumset is your ability to play at a variety of tempos with the same level of comfort. We all sometimes have a tendency to practice things basically at one tempoj, and then try to play it as fast as possible...this is not good. Anytime you practice anything, you should vary the tempo four or five times and work to maintain it. Getting it together and speeding it up is not going to do it.
